The September 2016 Villager of the Month is The Friends of the South Orange Public Library!

As reported in the September/October 2016 Gaslight newsletter, our volunteer group is the most recent Villager of the Month! This is a great honor and it spotlights the hard work many folks have been doing for many years to help out our local library.

The article reveals the close to $10,000 the Friends of the SOPL donates to the library annually, introduces its readers to some of our boards members and all of the various projects the Friends of the library have on-going.

THANK YOU South Orange for this kind acknowledgement!

Come and celebrate the 150th birthday of the South Orange library on Sept. 17th from 2:30pm-5:30pm
A 20 piece swing band! African Drumming!
The parade begins at Cameron Field and goes to the library where the celebrations continue!

All celebrations are FREE to all to join in!

The Friends of the South

Orange Public Library donated $3,000 to the SOPL for

the purchase of books and other materials in January

This donation is possible due to the generous donations

of our members and to the hard working volunteers at our

 various fundraising events.

The BIG GREEN BOX turns books into
funds for the library!

Wondering about that green "Drop Books Here" box outside the library in the parking lot? The Friends of the SOPL have partnered with Better World Books to earn a percentage of their profits for our library and help spread literacy throughout the world. Read more about it here.

It's NOT a place to return library books but you can donate books you no longer want! It's great way to get rid of those "hard-to-donate" books such as encyclopedias, user's manuals, and textbooks. Our volunteers keep on top of reporting when this box is full, and your donations get picked up in a timely manner. (During our book donation days for our annual Book Sale, we will temporarily pause donations at the green box)
